The UK–Malawi Chamber of Commerce has called on Malawi to strengthen its export certification and quality control systems to stay competitive in global markets. Speaking recently, CEO Hannington Gondwe stressed the need to move beyond tobacco exports and focus on high-value crops like soya, macadamia, and mangoes.
He warned that without internationally recognized standards and proper testing infrastructure, Malawi risks missing out on preferential trade deals. Improving value addition and aligning policies with global expectations could boost exports and retain more revenue domestically.
