Côte d’Ivoire has started its biggest water project called “Water for All.” The project is worth about 1,320 billion CFA francs, or $2.3 billion. It aims to give fair access to clean drinking water in both cities and villages. So far, water production has increased in 27 regions and storage in Abidjan has been improved. The plan also includes 450,000 new social water connections over three years. Old hand pumps were repaired and maintained between 2017 and 2020.
Another programme in the Niger River Basin is helping fight climate change in eight regions. Leaders say the project shows Côte d’Ivoire’s commitment to development and resilience.
