Police in the Eastern South Region have arrested 10 people in Akwatia and seized nine firearms. The operations are part of a crackdown on illegal weapons before the upcoming by-election. The seized guns include eight pump-action shotguns and one locally made single-barreled gun.
On August 22, officers arrested Bernard Kumi Ofosu near St. Dominic Hospital with a Tulpar gun and cartridges. That same day, Joshua Amenuku was caught with a pump-action gun and 20 cartridges. Two others, Enoch Asiedu and Chinese national Lu Youyan, were also arrested with cartridges linked to their employer, Mohammed, who is on the run. On August 23, police seized more guns and ammunition from Pieterson Joseph and Stephen Nkansah at checkpoints.
The police assures that the operations will continue to ensure safety before, during, and after the by-election.
