Togo took part in the second Africa–CARICOM summit in Addis Ababa on September 7, Foreign Minister Robert Dussey represented President Faure Gnassingbé at the meeting.
The summit focused on restorative justice for Africans and people of African descent. Dussey recalled that slavery, deportation, and colonization are classified as crimes against humanity. He said Togo is playing a leading role in ensuring this recognition is implemented. Talks also covered peace, trade, climate, education, health, and the African diaspora.
Togo aims to boost trade, attract investment in agribusiness and renewable energy, and grow its influence. CARICOM, founded in 1973, unites 15 island states seeking stronger global partnerships.
