Côte d’Ivoire Pushes Cocoa Sector Toward Bio-Economy

Côte d’Ivoire is launching a new strategy to transform its cocoa industry into a key driver of a national bio-economy. As the world’s top cocoa producer, the country aims to process all its cocoa locally by 2030 instead of exporting raw beans.

This initiative will increase value addition, create jobs, and boost farmers’ incomes according to experts. The plan also seeks to reduce dependency on volatile global cocoa prices. By promoting local processing, the government hopes to strengthen sustainable production and environmental protection. International partners, including Dutch investors, are being invited to support processing and logistics development.

Authorities believe the reform will improve rural livelihoods and promote fairer income distribution. This shift marks a major step in Côte d’Ivoire’s effort to build a greener and more resilient economy.
