MTN Ghana’s Chief Digital Officer, Ibrahim Misto, has urged Africa to redefine its digital identity by creating a secure and inclusive ecosystem rooted in African values. Speaking at the 10th MOBEX Africa Tech Expo in Accra, he said it was time for Africa to take full ownership of its data and technology.
He highlighted MTN’s Ambition 2025 strategy, which focuses on digital inclusion and innovation. MTN Ghana has already invested over $1 billion in digital infrastructure and plans to spend $240 million more in 2025. Mr. Misto showcased innovations like the MoMo Business App, Abena AI, and eSports projects supporting local talent. Foreign Minister Okudzeto Ablakwa also stressed that true sovereignty today means digital independence.
He called for stronger African cooperation to harmonize policies and strengthen cybersecurity. MOBEX Africa’s CEO, George Spencer Quaye, celebrated ten years of driving innovation and connecting African tech creators.
