President John Dramani Mahama has launched the Nkoko Nkitinkiti programme in Kumasi to boost Ghana’s poultry industry. The initiative is part of the government’s Feed Ghana Campaign aimed at reducing dependence on imported chicken.
It will be implemented in three phases, targeting backyard keepers, medium-scale farmers, and large commercial producers. Under the plan, ten million birds will be released onto the local market by the end of 2025. A poultry processing centre will also be established in Dormaa to support increased production. The programme is expected to create jobs and strengthen food security across the country.
Officials say it will help stabilise poultry prices and encourage local investment in the sector. Further details on registration and funding support for farmers will be announced soon.
