The University of Lomé is partnering in a new public health project funded by the European Union. The four-year initiative, led by the University of Limoges, aims to improve prevention and treatment of non-communicable diseases in Togo and Benin.
These diseases include diabetes, hypertension, and mental health disorders, which many patients in both countries struggle to access care for. The project will train health workers and introduce digital tools to support early detection and follow-up treatment. A special mobile application will help community health workers diagnose and monitor patients. The University of Lomé will handle training, adapt the digital tools to local needs, and supervise new PhD students.
Two additional doctoral projects will be funded in Togo, linking the country to a wider research network. The program builds on an earlier initiative and aims to strengthen long-term public health capacity in the region.
