SCOPE Africa Project Starts in Lomé

A new phase of the SCOPE Africa project has begun in Lomé to improve safety in major West and Central African ports. Leaders say countries cannot secure the seas alone, so stronger regional cooperation is needed.

The project will help ports meet global standards and manage risks better. It will also train workers and promote more inclusive participation. Africa relies heavily on sea trade, and growing activity increases security challenges. The EU is funding the project through Expertise France and Enabel.

Ten major ports, including Lomé, Dakar, Abidjan, Lagos and Douala, are part of the plan. This week, officials will outline how the project will work and visit the port of Lomé.
