Volta Tourism Boss Sets Three Priorities for Growth

The CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Houadjeto, has outlined three major priorities to boost tourism in the Volta Region. She said sustainable eco-tourism, strong public–private partnerships, and improved digital promotion are key to unlocking the region’s full potential.

Speaking at the Volta Investment Summit, she noted that the region already has rich natural and cultural sites but needs better coordination to maximise benefits. Houadjeto stressed that communities must gain directly from waterfalls, sanctuaries and festivals to ensure preservation and job creation. She pointed to ongoing support projects, including a tourism information centre, car parks and visitor facilities at selected sites. Houadjeto warned that infrastructure alone will not drive growth without financial support for young entrepreneurs in tourism.

She urged tech-savvy youth to promote Volta attractions online as GTA introduces new national digital tourism platforms. She added that collaboration among government, investors, chiefs and communities is vital for long-term tourism development.
