Togo’s Revenue Authority has launched a new import code, known as code 26, to regulate goods entering the country’s free trade zone. The measure, announced in early December, is designed to improve traceability and strengthen the accuracy of trade data.
OTR Commissioner General Yawa Djigbodi Tsègan said the code will automate manifest processing through the Single Window for Foreign Trade. It will also enforce filing deadlines, reduce manual corrections and support faster clearance of advance declarations. The free trade zone already enjoys special tax and customs benefits meant to boost investment and exports. With code 26, authorities can now clearly identify free-zone imports and tighten monitoring to curb errors or fraud.
Businesses are expected to benefit from clearer procedures and more efficient customs operations. The reform forms part of wider efforts to modernize the free zone regime and enhance both competitiveness and fiscal security.
