Pressure group Arise Ghana has vowed to maintain an indefinite protest at the United States Embassy in Accra over the absence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. The group’s lead convener, Bernard Mornah, said the protest was initially planned as an open-ended picketing exercise.
He explained that following discussions with the police, the group agreed to begin with a two-week sit-in at the embassy. Mr Mornah stated that the protest would be reviewed after the two weeks if Mr Ofori-Atta does not return to Ghana. He added that the group would immediately end the picketing if the former minister comes back to the country. Protesters say they are ready to camp at the site with basic supplies to sustain the action.
The protest reflects growing public agitation over calls for Mr Ofori-Atta to return and answer questions about Ghana’s economic challenges. Arise Ghana says its action is focused on ensuring accountability and transparency through lawful protest.
