Accra Among Africa’s Costliest Cities

Accra ranked the 8th most expensive city in Africa in 2026. The ranking comes from Numbeo’s Cost of Living Index, where Accra scored 36.6. This places the city ahead of Nairobi, Tunis, and Cairo. High grocery prices are a major concern, with a groceries index of 42.4. Restaurant prices are also high, adding pressure to household spending.

Rent levels are relatively moderate and not the main cost driver. Purchasing power in Accra remains very low, making living costs feel heavier. Overall, daily expenses continue to strain residents despite signs of economic recovery.
