Ghana to Hold State Funeral for Helicopter Crash Victims

President John Mahama has announced a state funeral on Friday, August 15, at Black Star Square in Accra. It will honour eight people who died in a military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.

An Evening of Reflection will also be held on Saturday, August 9, at the State House. The president said the victims served the nation and must be honoured with dignity. Books of condolence will be opened from August 10 to 14 at various public offices. Locations include the Defence Ministry, Environment Ministry, Foreign Affairs Ministry, Armed Forces HQ, NDC HQ, and NADMO head office. The victims included Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed. They were on an official mission when their Air Force Z-9 helicopter crashed near Adansi Akrofuom.
