The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohunu, has taken charge of the investigation into the death of Cheith Toure, a Senegalese teenage goalkeeper who died in Kumasi last week.
A police statement issued by ACP Grace Ansah Akrofi said a special team of homicide, forensic, and intelligence experts has been deployed to assist the Ashanti Regional Command. Police reports confirm that on October 16, a man named Issah, claiming to be the victim’s brother, took the injured teenager to the Manhyia Hospital. The deceased was pronounced dead on arrival and later sent to the Ebenezer Mortuary at Tafo. Issah told police the boy had been involved in an accident. However, Senegal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Toure was a victim of scams and extortion.
The police have since intensified investigations to uncover the true cause of death. Authorities have assured the public of transparency in handling the case.
