Rice Farmers Plan Protest Over Government Inaction

Commercial rice farmers in the Northern Region are preparing to stage a mass demonstration in Tamale next week. They accuse the government of failing to buy their locally produced rice despite repeated promises.

Many farmers say their stockpiles are going bad due to a lack of buyers. The protest, scheduled for Monday, November 10, aims to draw national attention to their struggles. Farmers claim they have not received support under the local rice promotion programs. They argue that government institutions continue to import rice instead of supporting domestic producers.

Organizers insist the action will be peaceful but firm in demanding fair treatment. They hope the protest will push authorities to fulfill their commitment to promote Ghana’s local rice industry.
