Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK has asked Ghanaian PhD students to remain patient over delayed scholarship payments. Sabah Zita Benson said efforts are ongoing to clear unpaid fees and stipends.
She explained that the delays are linked to late budget releases from the Ministry of Finance. According to her, funds are expected to be released within the first quarter of the year. Once money is available, the Scholarship Secretariat will begin settling the debts. She admitted the situation is worrying and said she is personally following up on it.
Some affected students have reportedly gone over a year without support. Many are now facing eviction and relying on food banks while awaiting payment.
