Togo Updates Its Forest Data System

Just a week after taking office, Environment Minister Prof. Komla Dodzi Kokoroko has launched his first major initiative — updating Togo’s national forest database.

In a statement issued on Thursday, October 16, he called on all holders of logging permits and forest product transport authorizations to submit certified copies of their documents within eight working days. The move aims to improve the reliability of forest statistics and promote transparency in resource management. The forestry sector remains vital to

Togo’s economy but poses ecological challenges. This reform is part of the government’s broader environmental goals. Since 2020, Togo has aimed to plant one billion trees by 2030 to expand its forest cover and combat climate change.
