Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) has welcomed Bosquet Investments Ltd. as a new major shareholder. The company, owned by Alain Nkontchou, acquired 21.22% of ETI for $100 million from South Africa’s Nedbank. The deal, pending regulatory approval, is expected to close by the end of 2025. Nkontchou, a former ETI chairman, says he will support the bank’s growth strategy.
The move follows Ecobank’s $250 million bond issue in July and the sale of its Mozambique unit to FDH Bank of Malawi. Headquartered in Lomé, Ecobank operates in 35 countries with more than 32 million customers.
