BUA Cement Invests N9bn in Youth Development

BUA Cement has launched a comprehensive N9 billion Host Community Empowerment Programme, targeting 60 youths for specialized training in heavy-duty machinery operation and maintenance.

The six-month initiative focuses on equipping beneficiaries from host communities with industry-relevant skills for handling excavators, tippers, and other construction equipment. The program aims to enhance self-reliance while improving employability across public and private sectors.

Plant Director Engr. Aminu Bashir, representing Managing Director Engr. Muhammad Haliru Binji, emphasized the program’s alignment with BUA Cement’s corporate social responsibility commitments. The initiative extends beyond skill acquisition to provide comprehensive career development opportunities.

“This empowerment scheme gives these youths the tools they need to succeed in life—whether with BUA Cement or beyond,” Bashir stated during the official launch ceremony.

Participants successfully completing training and securing employment with BUA Cement will earn monthly salaries of N150,000, reflecting the company’s commitment to providing sustainable, dignified livelihoods for local talents. This compensation structure demonstrates significant investment in human capital development.

The program addresses youth unemployment and underemployment through practical interventions designed to create immediate economic impact. Industry stakeholders describe the initiative as a rare opportunity in Nigeria’s increasingly competitive job market.

Beneficiary Muhammad Bello described the training as “life-changing” and “a game-changer,” expressing gratitude for the company’s ongoing community development contributions. The positive reception indicates strong community support for the initiative.

BUA Cement’s Host Community Empowerment Programme represents part of the company’s broader social impact agenda, emphasizing strategic investments in human capital development. The approach creates long-term value and opportunities extending beyond core cement manufacturing operations.

Industry observers have praised the initiative as a model corporate social responsibility program, encouraging other corporations to adopt similar approaches to inclusive and sustainable development practices.

The training program is expected to generate positive ripple effects across participating communities, potentially inspiring additional youth development initiatives. Economic analysts project that successful implementation could create indirect employment opportunities through enhanced local capacity.
