Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, says the cedi is no longer depreciating. Speaking in Parliament on July 24 during the 2025 mid-year budget review, he said, “Cedi no apicki” — a phrase in local slang meaning the cedi has stabilised.
The cedi has strengthened from GH¢15 to about GH¢10.45 per US dollar on the interbank market. Dr. Forson credited the improvement to strong macroeconomic fundamentals and higher export earnings. He also noted increased investor confidence and steady remittances as key drivers. Gains in gold and cocoa exports helped boost foreign currency inflows.
This currency appreciation, he said, has led to slight reductions in prices of imported goods. Government plans to maintain prudent economic policies to keep the cedi strong and inflation low.
