Côte d’Ivoire has adopted a new bill to boost small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-sized firms. The law creates a stronger framework for financing, coordination, and promotion of local businesses.
It establishes a uniform definition for SMEs and mid-sized companies. The legislation also expands local content requirements in publicly funded and partnership projects. A monitoring system and a new support fund will guide and strengthen SME policy. Officials say the fund will improve public support and economic sovereignty.
SMEs currently contribute about 23% of GDP and formal jobs, according to 2021 data. Government programs like PEPITE and the SME Agency have already assisted thousands of local businesses.
