Equatorial Guinea to Lead AFRISTAT from 2026

Equatorial Guinea will chair the Council of Ministers of AFRISTAT from January 2026 to December 2027. It will take over from Togo, which has held the role since January 2024. The decision was made during AFRISTAT’s 32nd ordinary session held online last week. The meeting, chaired by Togo’s Sandra Ablamba Johnson, discussed strengthening national statistical systems.

AFRISTAT helps member states harmonize data collection and boost development policies. Togo praised the Observatory’s role in improving data credibility for global partners. For 2026–2035, AFRISTAT has approved a budget of 12 billion FCFA. This funding will support economic, social, and environmental statistics in its 22 member countries.
