Communication Minister Sam Nartey George has dismissed claims that DStv prices in Ghana are linked to the country’s market size. He argued that if population determined costs, Liberia with only five million people would not be paying less than Ghana.
He also cited Angola, which has a population similar to Ghana, yet subscribers there pay around $30. The Minister described suggestions that Nigeria’s lower rates are due to its larger population as “uninformed.” He said such arguments are based on social media sentiment rather than facts. His comments follow successful negotiations between government and MultiChoice Africa, providers of DStv.
From October 1, Ghanaian subscribers will enjoy 33% to 50% more value depending on their package. Honourable George described the new deal as an unprecedented offer unmatched anywhere else in Africa.
