Gov’t Gives MultiChoice Ghana Deadline to Cut DStv Prices

The Minister for Communications, Samuel George, has given MultiChoice Ghana until September 6 to reduce DStv subscription fees. He says if prices are not reduced by then, the company’s license could be revoked. Mr. George spoke at the Digital Africa Summit in Accra, calling for fair pricing for Ghanaians.

He revealed that the company has refused to provide pricing data requested by the National Communications Authority. Because of this, MultiChoice has been fined GH¢10,000 per day, now owing up to GH¢170,000. The minister said talks have been held, but the company has ignored calls to reduce prices by 30 percent. A final meeting between the government and MultiChoice is set for tomorrow. If no agreement is reached, Mr. George says the company will be shut down
