GPRTU Targets Illegal Fare Hikes

The GPRTU has announced a crackdown on drivers who illegally increase fares. The decision follows complaints from commuters in Accra. Overcharging is common during peak hours due to traffic and vehicle shortages. Enforcement operations begin on Monday, January 19, 2026. Union task forces will monitor areas with frequent passenger complaints.

Drivers who break the rules may be suspended from loading points. Serious offenders could be expelled from the Union. GPRTU will also introduce vehicle branding to identify its registered members.
