GUTA Cautions Government on AI Rollout

The Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations says the government should fix the confusing tax system before introducing AI at the ports. GUTA warns that the new VAT reforms are causing stress for many small and medium traders. It says traders are being treated differently because of the GH¢750,000 VAT threshold. Those above the threshold must add 20% VAT, while those below are exempt. GUTA believes this change is driving customers away from affected traders.

The Association says some who were on the 4% flat rate now pay 20% because their turnover increased. It worries that prices will rise and business will drop for many. GUTA supports technology but insists taxes at the ports must be corrected before AI is introduced.
