Sidi Ould Tah Sworn In as New AfDB President

The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) held a swearing-in ceremony in Abidjan on Monday, September 1, 2025, for its new President, Dr. Sidi Ould Tah. The event was chaired by Ludovic Ngatsé, Congo’s Minister of Economy and Chair of the Bank’s Board of Governors.

Tah, 60, a Mauritanian national, was elected on May 29, 2025, with 76.18% of the votes from the Bank’s 81 member countries. He becomes the ninth President of the AfDB, succeeding Nigeria’s Akinwumi Adesina after a decade in office. The ceremony was attended by Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, and other global dignitaries. Tah previously led the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) since 2015.

He is recognized as an experienced economist with expertise in development finance and international cooperation. His leadership is expected to boost the Bank’s role in financing development, regional integration, and climate resilience across Africa.
