The United Nations has issued its strongest condemnation yet of the escalating violence in Sudan, particularly in Darfur and Kordofan, where communities are experiencing mass displacement, targeted killings, rape, and a devastating famine. Over 12 million people are now displaced, and at least 25 million face acute food insecurity. Reports of armed groups recruiting children and attacking aid convoys have made humanitarian access nearly impossible. Entire villages have vanished, and hospitals are either destroyed or deserted. Sudan’s gold smuggling is worsening the war, with an estimated $3 billion in illicit gold flowing out annually—fueling both the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces. The international community has been slow to act, and sanctions have yet to stop the bloodshed. Humanitarian officials say a generation of Sudanese children could be lost to war, starvation, and trauma if immediate intervention does not happen. A ceasefire remains elusive, and the suffering grows each day.
