Togo has entered a new phase of its national electric mobility strategy launched in 2025. On January 22, 2026, electric vehicles were handed over in Lomé to the Ministry of the Environment and the Golfe 3 municipality.
The vehicles were provided with support from the United Nations Development Programme. Two electric cars worth about 64 million CFA francs were added to the public vehicle fleet. The initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions and lower fuel costs linked to government travel. UNDP officials said the move would ease energy expenses and promote greener administration.
Authorities hope the project will attract more partners to expand electric mobility nationwide. The strategy targets rising pollution caused by population growth and the use of old, high-emission vehicles.
