Togo is set to start coastal protection works on the Gbodjomé–Agbodrafo–Goumoukopé segment on October 20, 2025. The project, worth over 33 billion FCFA, is part of the West Africa Coastal Resilience Investment Program. It is funded by the AFD, Invest International, and supported by the World Bank.
Dutch firm Boskalis International BV will build 22 groynes to reduce erosion and protect communities. About 730,000 cubic meters of sand will be used to reinforce the shore and stabilize the coast. The project also includes planting 10 hectares of coconut trees and filling lagoon arms in Aného.
Over 296 affected people have been compensated, and 112 jobs created, mostly for locals. Engineers say the works will protect the coastline for at least 30 years and may extend to Kpémé and Aného.
