Stakeholders in Togo’s organic production sector are validating a local certification framework. The process is taking place at a workshop in Lomé led by ANABIO-Togo with support from GIZ. The framework aims to define national standards for organic production and marketing. ANABIO-Togo said the initiative began in 2020 through consultations with producers and farms. It is built around the Bio-SPG system, a Togolese standard recognized internationally.
The document covers plant and animal production, as well as governance requirements. Once approved, it will give local producers easier access to organic certification. The move is expected to boost agroecology and encourage consumption of local products.
