Togolese entrepreneur Kplolali Ahama, co-founder of Aquaponie du Togo, won an award at the BlueInvest Africa 2025 Forum in Lomé. Her project integrates fish farming and vegetable production through a sustainable aquaponics system.
The system uses waste from tilapia and catfish to fertilize crops like tomatoes, cucumbers, and herbs. Installed in a 40 m² pilot site, it can also work on small plots for homes and schools. The founders plan to build Togo’s first 3000 m² aquaponic farm in Lomé. EU fisheries director Charlina Vitcheva praised the project for its social and environmental impact.
Aquaponie du Togo won in the “Promotion of Aquaculture” category and will receive ongoing support. The forum, held for the first time in West Africa, gathered 200 participants from 30 countries.
