Ghana Movie Industry Criticised by Selassie Ibrahim

Ghanaian actress Selassie Ibrahim says local TV stations are to blame for the collapse of the Ghanaian movie industry. She argues that channels prefer cheap foreign movies instead of supporting local productions. The actress says producers spend up to $30,000 per film but TV stations offer as little as GH₵1,000. She believes this unfair pricing pushes filmmakers into debt and stops them from producing more content.

Ibrahim also criticises stations for buying old foreign films rather than new Ghanaian ones. She says this behaviour has weakened the local creative economy. She adds that Ghanaians often prefer foreign content and fail to celebrate local movies. She calls on regulators and TV owners to create fair policies and support local filmmakers.
