Côte d’Ivoire and Two Others Partner on Sickle Cell Care

Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya and Uganda have signed agreements with Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies to improve sickle cell disease care. The partnership aims to create national frameworks that coordinate diagnosis, treatment, and patient support.

Health workers in the three countries will receive training to boost their capacity in managing the condition. Public campaigns will also be launched to raise awareness and reduce stigma surrounding sickle cell. A key focus is ensuring regular access to safe blood and essential medical supplies for patients. The agreement also includes joint research to shape stronger health policies and treatment standards.

Terumo will provide technical expertise and modern tools to support the reforms. Experts reveal that the initiative marks an important step in tackling one of Africa’s most widespread genetic diseases.
