Togo will introduce the R21 malaria vaccine into its health system on September 1, 2025. The Ministry of Health announced the move during an awareness meeting in Lomé. Children from five months old will receive the vaccine at health facilities. The schedule includes four doses: at 5, 6, 7, and 15 months.Officials urged parents to trust the vaccine, calling it safe and effective.
The program is part of broader malaria prevention efforts like bed nets and treatment for pregnant women. Togo is receiving support from the Global Alliance for Vaccines (Gavi) for the rollout. The government says the vaccine will help reduce both mild and severe malaria in children.
