Burkina Faso Postpones Elections Until 2029

Burkina Faso’s military leader Ibrahim Traoré announced that national elections will be delayed until 2029. He justified the move by citing the need for national stabilization and fighting insurgency.

His critics, however, view the delay as a power grab. Human rights groups accuse his government of repression, media censorship, and authoritarianism, drawing international concern over the country’s democratic future.
