The Independent Electoral Commission has confirmed 1,143 candidates for Côte d’Ivoire’s December 27 legislative elections. The list includes 185 women, reflecting growing female participation in national politics.
CEI officials say the selection process followed strict eligibility criteria outlined by the electoral code. Some candidacies were rejected due to incomplete documents or failure to meet legal requirements. The Commission has also warned political actors against early campaigning ahead of the official period. It notes that some candidates are already engaging in subtle mobilization in violation of the rules.
The CEI says it will enforce sanctions if the practice continues. With the publication of the provisional list, preparations for the legislative elections are entering a decisive phase.
