ECOWAS Appoints Osinbajo to Lead Côte d’Ivoire Election Mission

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has named former Nigerian Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo as head of its Election Observation Mission to Côte d’Ivoire. The mission will oversee the country’s presidential election scheduled for October 25, 2025. ECOWAS said the deployment, from October 19 to 29, aims to promote transparency and credibility in the polls. Osinbajo will lead a team of diplomats, civil society experts, and election specialists from across West Africa. The observers will assess the legal, political, and security conditions surrounding the election. They are also expected to meet with key stakeholders, including the electoral commission and political parties. Preliminary findings will be released shortly after the vote, followed by a detailed final report. ECOWAS said the move reflects its commitment to peace, stability, and democratic governance in the sub-region.
