France and Togo to Hold Peace Conference on Great Lakes Region

France will host an international conference on October 30 to promote peace and prosperity in Africa’s Great Lakes region. The event, co-organized with Togo, supports mediation efforts led by Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé between the DRC and Rwanda.

It aims to rally global support for addressing the worsening humanitarian crisis, especially in eastern DRC. According to France’s Foreign Ministry, the talks will focus on urgent responses to local needs. The conference will also boost international backing for peace and development initiatives in the region. It will complement ongoing mediation by the United States, Qatar, and the African Union.

Another key topic will be regional economic integration as a path to lasting peace. President Gnassingbé is expected to present Togo’s mediation proposals and seek further international input.
