Ivory Coast Opposition Condemns Arrests as Crackdown

Ivory Coast’s opposition party PPA-CI has condemned the arrest of six of its members. Party leader Sébastien Dano Djédjé claimed they were abducted overnight in Abidjan. He linked the arrests to a broader crackdown tied to President Ouattara’s fourth-term bid. The detainees are from Youpougon, where a bus was recently torched and police attacked. Interior Minister Diomandé shared a video of a suspect confessing to the violence.

The suspect claimed he acted with 15 others on behalf of the PPA-CI. Diomandé rejected claims of illegal arrests, insisting the law was followed. He said arbitrary detentions no longer exist in Ivory Coast’s justice system.
