National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has dismissed proposals for a state of emergency to address illegal mining. He warned that such a decision could destabilize Ghana and weaken democratic governance.
Speaking on Channel One TV, he acknowledged that galamsey remains a major national problem. However, he stressed that suspending the constitution would bring greater risks than solutions. According to the revered politician, emergency powers could allow abuses, including unchecked violence. He cautioned that those calling for such measures might later regret their consequences.
Mr. Nketiah insisted that reforms must be rooted in the rule of law. He urged Ghanaians to support practical and lasting solutions to end illegal mining.
