Stanislas Baba Appointed Secretary General of Togo’s First Fifth Republic Government

Four months after Togo’s transition to the Fifth Republic, Faure Gnassingbé, President of the Council, has appointed Stanislas Baba as Minister, Secretary General of the new government. The appointment was announced on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, via national television (TVT).

This marks the first official step toward forming the country’s first government under its new parliamentary regime. Public expectations are high as citizens await the full composition of the government. Stanislas Baba is a close ally of Faure Gnassingbé and a seasoned public servant. He previously served as maritime security advisor and held various ministerial roles.

He also led the Millennium Challenge Account – Togo, a major U.S.-Togo cooperation program. His appointment signals continuity and experience at the core of Togo’s new political era.
