Togo Elects New Municipal Leaders

Togo is continuing the renewal of its municipal executives after local elections held a few months ago. Several new mayors were elected this week, marking the start of the second term for local officials since 2019.

In Atakpamé, Dr. Komlan Mensah Kassamada of the UNIR party became mayor of Ogou 1, replacing Yawa Kouigan, now a government minister. In Greater Lomé, Abdul-Fahd Fofana was chosen as mayor of Agoè-Nyivé 4, while Akossiwa Aguzé now leads Agoè-Nyivé 1. Éric Kpadé was elected in Golfe 2, and Essohanim Gnassingbé unanimously won the post in Golfe 3. Kossi Aboka was reappointed in Golfe 5, and Me Kokou Amenyenou takes charge of Golfe 6.

Former National Assembly president Yawa Djigbodi Tségan was also elected mayor of Kpélé 2, reinforcing the ruling UNIR party’s local influence.
