Lomé hosted a high-level meeting on January 17 to support the peace process in the DRC and the Great Lakes region. The meeting was chaired by AU mediator Faure Gnassingbé. African former leaders and representatives from DRC, Rwanda, Uganda, and other countries attended. Officials from the U.S., France, and Qatar were also present. Discussions focused on coordinating African and international peace efforts.
Participants agreed to create an independent secretariat to support the mediation panel. The U.S. praised Togo’s leadership and reaffirmed support for 2025 DRC-Rwanda agreements. The meeting aims to strengthen peace and stability across the region.
