Togo’s Ministry of Environment has announced the creation of a national climate monitoring unit. The initiative, launched by Minister Dodzi Kokoroko, aims to strengthen resilience and guide climate-related decision-making.
The new unit will monitor, analyze, and share data on climate change and its impacts. It will also ensure Togo’s compliance with the Climate Convention and coordinate participation in global climate meetings. The unit will use data from meteorological and environmental services to predict risks and inform sustainable policies. It will also help develop local climate knowledge and support disaster prevention efforts.
Officials say the mechanism will improve Togo’s access to international climate finance. This step complements the government’s tree-planting program targeting one billion trees by 2030.
