Transport Ministry Talks with GPRTU on Fare Prices

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) met with the Ministry of Transport on 16 January to address rising passenger fare overpricing. The talks focused on challenges commuters face due to vehicle shortages and unauthorised fare hikes.

GPRTU stressed that drivers should not exploit passengers under any circumstances. The union reiterated its position that approved fare structures must be respected, especially during peak travel times. Ministry officials expressed commitment to finding sustainable solutions with key stakeholders. The meeting highlighted ongoing concerns about transport service quality nationwide.

Commuters have welcomed discussions but want swift action. The outcome could lead to new policy measures to stabilise fare costs.
