African workers have urged Côte d’Ivoire to respect the rule of law before the 2025 elections.
The ITUC-Africa confederation expressed concern after President Ouattara announced a fourth-term bid. Opposition parties have mobilized in Abidjan, calling for democracy and fair polls. The group urged the government to release political detainees to ease tensions. It also called for inclusive dialogue between government and opposition.
The AU, ECOWAS, and UN were asked to step in to support credible elections. ITUC-Africa warned against repeating past mistakes of conflict and instability. It pledged to monitor events closely with unions, civil society, and rights groups.
