South Africa’s Mateo Le Roux claimed the first gold medal of the African U18/U20 Athletics Championships, currently taking place at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.
Making his debut at the African Junior Athletics competition, Mateo struck gold in the High Jump event. He successfully cleared both the 1.80m and 2.03m heights along with his rivals but stood out by being the only athlete to clear 2.06m.
