The Minority in Parliament has criticised the government’s 9% salary increase for public sector workers, calling it a betrayal of struggling Ghanaians. In a statement signed by MP Mavis Nkansah Boadu, they said the raise is “economically inadequate” amid rising transport fares, utility tariffs, and food prices.
They argued that inflation and the weak cedi have already reduced workers’ real incomes. The group compared the new rate to previous double-digit increases, including 24% in 2024 and 30% in 2023. They described the sharp drop as “shameful” given the government’s claims of economic recovery. The statement accused the administration of poor fiscal management and insensitivity to workers’ hardships.
The Minority urged government to reopen talks with labour unions to propose a fairer increase. They said anything less would amount to “economic injustice” against hardworking Ghanaians.
